Jekyll and Hyde... The Musical?

Or, how I spent my Summer Vacation pt. 2

So, my Summer Vacation ended about a month early thanks to the wonderful and addicting world of theater. back in July I auditioned for Lehi City's production of Jekyll and Hyde, and started rehearsals at the beginning of August. All I can say is; WOW I can't believe how the time has flown. I am having an extremely good time with this show, the director and my fellow cast members are amazing. this show will seriously ROCK! I think that just about covers it. the music in this show is fantastic, everyone I know who is familiar with the show loves it. the show runs Oct 15-31. Perfect for Halloween. I realise that I am a bit crazy doing a show while in school. because rehearsals usually run late I am mildly sleep deprived at this point, and it will probably get worse. But it's so worth it. I find it very interesting how something can be so time consuming, so exhausting, and sometimes so stressful, and at the same time be the best way to unwind. Theater is strange like that.

Now to address those dumbfounded looks:

Yes Jekyll and Hyde is a musical.

No, I do not play Jekyll or Hyde

Yes, they are played by the same person

No, it's not a Comedy...it's a drama, a Gothic thriller to be more specific. think Les miserables, Scarlet Pimpernel, or Sweeney Todd. that should give you an idea about the tone of the show

No, It's not for kids. that's not to say it's an 'Adult' show. it's just dark, intense, and has some violent scenes (think the above mentioned shows...)

Yes, you should come see it. seriously. you won't be disappointed

How I spent my summer vacation

"I want to watch, I want to watch" I love my niece and nephew! (sure makes it tough to play though)

Hello, hello, and welcome to another exciting installment of Daniel's underloved, and underupdated blog. It's been a while. but fear not all 3 of my faithful readers (okay, that's giving myself way too much credit). I am still alive, and am back from summer vacation, so now it's back to blogging.

...Okay I admit, I am not really 'back' because I didn't go anywhere. Nope, no camping, no sight seeing, no traveling. my summer Vacation was spent in good old Utah County. Now I'm not complaining mind you, I had a very enjoyable summer. just not too eventful. so here is the rundown:

I had a few classes over the summer semester including; Illustration, International Ballroom Dance, Voice Lessons, Music Theory, and Piano Lessons. it was a good semester, but I must admit I struggled a bit with the illustration class. Despite being an Art major, I am not the most talented or motivated artist (which is why I have not posted any art online in a long time).

Aside from school, I worked at Thanksgiving point, and occasionally for Woogi World. The remainder of my time was filled with Longboarding and occasionally Video games. this may come as a huge shock to some of my good friends and family members, but yes only occasional video games, I find that they just don't hold my interest like they used to... must be getting old or something.

So there You have it! the super exciting overview of my super exciting summer! wow, I bet you all wish that you were me!

Thanks for reading. more udates to come!Tomlinsons in their natural habitat... Actually from my brother's birthday, spent just the way he wanted it; hanging with his siblings playing video games. now that's what I call quality time together!

My Monsterous Weekend!

monstrous (mŏn'strəs)
-adj.
1. Of or resembling a fabulous monster.
2. extraordinarily great; huge; immense.

I filled my weekend with 1. Monster making, and 2. General Conference, which was Extraordinarily great, spiritually huge, and doctrinally immense.

I Love General Conference Weekend, it is an event i look forward to with great excitement every 6 months. The Talks are always seem to be just for me, and I love spending time with my family, and just taking it easy for a weekend. when I was younger, my mom would come up with great crafts and activities to keep us kids quiet and content durring the 4 sessions, and while I have learned to love the talks, it's still fun to do a little project while watching. this years project was sock monsters!

Farewell to an old friend

I have some somewhat sad news to blog today; I lost a close friend. Yeah, somewhere between my class at one end of campus, and my car parked at the other I dropped my hat, it was sticking out of my back pocket and somehow got dropped somewhere, I retraced my steps, but to no avail... Wait you all thought I was going to be talking about a person? Well, thankfully no.

Some may not realize this, but this is no ordinary hat, this was a courduroy brown flat cap. a hat that has been on my head almost every other day for the past 2 years or so. True I have two more at home that are similar in style, but this one was the best.

Well, sad day. but I'm over it. In my distress I stopped in at Target to see if they had a similar style, but -no surprise- no such luck. So as a consolation bought a pinstriped dark grey fedora (hooray for the clearance rack!). it gives my head a whole new look.

Ah, how I love a good random blog post.

thanks for stopping by my blog, and until next time;
Stay happy and remember to recycle!

Simple joys, and random happenings

Now that school has started, it's time for things to get crazy hectic and stressful. sometimes I need to take time to recognise simple pleasures in my life. Like the smell of new books, and new art supplies, and the smell of new shoes.

I have been getting to know all those things quite well lately, I have bought hundreds of dollars worth of books and supplies this semester, and I even bought myself new shoes! yup I bought a pair of Chuck Taylors. i don't think I've had those shoes since I was in elementary school. I guess some things never go out of style.

Last weekend I got to go downtown to see the Bodyworlds Exhibit. it was SPECTACULAR! I am so amazed by the complexity of the body. I am so grateful that I have one that works, that god did not see fit to give me any major infirmities or defects. It's one of those things I take for granted far too often.

I have discovered a new favorite past-time, well rediscovered... I have recently started listening to audiobooks again. so far I have read... well listened to 4 books this month; Coraline, Howl's Moving Castle, City of Ember, and Ella Enchanted. I'm in the middle of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. It's fun because I can listen to them all the time, like while trekking from one end of campus to the other, or while driving to and from work. While it's not exactly reading, it's kind of like it...

I was talking with a friend the other day who shared many of the same things I am going through in my life. She stated that up through High school, life was fairly strait forward, you go to school, then the next step is the next grade, then you graduate, go to college, and go on a mission (or get married). she said that since she had returned from her mission, she is at a loss as to what she is to do in her life, and is somewhat afraid to take a step in any specific direction for fear that she would miss an opportunity... I felt like I was listening to a recording of my own thoughts. I have thought about those types of things quite a bit lately.

Life really is good, isn't it? why do we sometimes forget that? why do we get so caught up in our own selfish lives that we forget to love, and find joy in life? why do I ask so many questions and yet so often feel like I don't want the true answers... I think all too often we know the solutions to many tough questions and obstacles in our lives, but we are too afraid,or self conscious, or preoccupied, or just plain too lazy to take action.

Just some food for thought.

Wow I can't believe I wrote such a big entry again. I guess I had a lot on my mind. Don't get too used to this. it's just a fluke, perhaps left over motivation from the New Years holiday, or whatever.

Well, until next time, Thanks for reading, and remember to stay safe and happy.

Here we go again...

Happy New Year!!!

Here I am yet again; it's been months since my last update. Fortunately it's a new year, and so time to make resolutions, and new beginnings.

to begin this year of blogging, I've decided to give the current status of ME, I mean it is my blog and all, so I think I am entitled.

I am currently (still) an art major at UVU, with three or so semesters until I graduate. I have been considering getting a minor in music, it would most likely add another semester, but since I don't really know what I'm doing when I graduate, I'm mostly okay with that idea. I'll know better at the end of this semester.

I still have both of my jobs, and both are going fairly well. See the nifty picture? That's me at thanksgiving point in front of one of the projectors I run (looks impressive doesn't it?)

I recently got a calling as an Elders Quorum instructor. I have taught once so far, i usually enjoy teaching lessons in church, and this ward is no exception.

It should also be noted that I am still single, and looking to change that, but until then, I really do love my singles ward, my roommates, and my apartment, really I have no reason to complain, or stress, the lord has it in his hands.

Last month I was involved in 'A Christmas Carol' presented by Center Street Musical Theater. It was their last show, as they went out of business. I have done a handful of shows over these past two years at center street, and met a lot of great people and had many very wonderful experiences with them. It's been sad to see them go.

Speaking of theater, I have no idea when I will do another show, not this semester unfortunately, I will be working every night after school. I'm going to miss it, it's a good way for me to unwind (which seems strange considering how stressful it is at the same time). I'm sure this will be a blessing in disguise because it will help to force me to use my free time on homework. (shudder)

now for 2009!

I got my car paid off!
I have set quite a few resolutions this year, which include things I should be doing anyway, such as; reading scriptures, praying, Practicing music, doing art, etc. etc. regularly, as in daily. small things I should be doing anyway, but somewhere along the way I started to slack. But hey, that's what the new years celebration is all about, making a new start, and being the people we want to be! so this year you can ask me how they are going and I will tell you that it's going great!

I am so looking forward to this new year and the new adventures it brings, so buckle up, and hold on tight, because this is going to be my year, Just wait and see.

Thanks for reading, and tune in really soon for the exciting happenings of 2009!!

whoops, I'm Slacking again

ok, so I have a tendency to get mildly annoyed when my favorite blogs and websites don't get updated very often, and here I am with no updates since the end of july... guess I can't complain anymore.

so here is the quick update; I moved to a new apartment about a month ago with some guys I already knew, thus avoiding the 'random roommate gamble'. The new place is sweet, it's quiet duplex in the back of a culdesac. I am really loving it here. I Started a new semester of school, and am still working my two jobs. I am finally supposed to get some of my work to actually go live at woogi world very soon, like in the next week (but that's what I said a month ago) but hey I get paid for working anyway.

so what can I say, life is good, and I am keeping busy. Oh and have aI mentioned lately that I love the Gospel? because it's True!

until next time my faithful readers!

a much needed recharge...I think

So I just got back a few days ago from camping all week with my family. It was great! Part of it was spent in Yellowstone, I loved being out in nature and seeing the amazing landscape. pictures just can't do justice to it. it was beautiful.
Camping has a way of putting certain things into perspective, like making you extremely grateful for a clean soft bed, a nice hot shower, and life without cell-phones (does that exist?)
Overall though, it was great to take my first real long vacation in about 3 years. it gave me a much needed recharge... except that I seem to be lacking motivation to work this week. Maybe I need a vacation.
